Your wedding, your way! A Journey of Love, Trends, and Personal Expression

Congratulations on your engagement! Whether it’s brand new or many years in the making, riding this wave is like floating on a cloud, I remember it well. It’s being reminded of your lover every time you catch a glimpse of that new ring, or waking up to a flood of messages, congratulating you both on this new, exciting chapter of your lives together.

As you embark on this journey, envisioning your dream day becomes more than just a dream, it is now the next exciting step in your lives together!

Now before I go into the trend forecast and predictions for 2024, for context, I’ll spill the tea about my own wedding only a few years back.

Picture this: eye rolls, snide comments, and one guest even tried to debate, with me, the bride, on what was in ‘theme’. Let’s just say, it was not the reaction I was hoping for.

Now, although I had always wanted to get married, I didn’t have this fairytale idea of how it would play out, this might have been because I didn’t come out until my early 20s.

I had never envisioned the big dress, the group of besties wearing matching attire or what type of flowers would adorn the aisles, hell, to be honest, I didn’t even think of flowers at all until I was actually planning my wedding!

Anyway, I remember meeting for lunch with friends, chatting about the wedding and current trends at the time (2022). I wasn’t taken by any of them, while they were nice, the garden wedding, hanging florals, and fairy lights weren’t really for me, I had my own vision – a dark, moody vibe that sang to my soul. It was at this point I realised that while I didn’t have everyone on board, the only people that needed to love the day were myself and my soon-to-be wife, so plan we did!

The morning of our wedding I woke up alone, everything was still, peaceful, and my soul was calm and ready. Alone, I sat in the bath, looking out the window of the bridal suite at the grey clouds overhead.

At that moment, in the quiet of existence, I realised, the one thing that could make this day better, was rain. Yep, rain! So, there I sat, a bride on her wedding day, in the bath, hoping, praying, and sending all my energy out into the universe to let the sky open up and pour down on our day.

Now they say rain on your wedding day is good luck, but honestly, it just fit my mood perfectly.

Now, even though the first reactions didn’t quite go as I planned when I announced my theme, did I care? Nope, not one bit. Our wedding day unfolded like a dream, raindrops and all, and it was more perfect than I could've ever imagined.

So, here's the deal – following YOUR heart and YOUR vision is the secret sauce to creating your perfect wedding. Trends? Who cares! If it feels right for you, it's golden. Now in saying that what are industry predictions for 2024?

In the landscape of 2024, micro weddings are gaining popularity, emphasising quality over quantity. Bridal separates are taking the fashion scene by storm, giving brides the freedom to express their individual style. Bold colours are making a statement, moving past the traditional whites and pastels. Big bows are appearing as a prominent trend in bridal fashion, adding a touch of drama and femininity, and not only in fashion, but bows are also making a big comeback in the way of décor, think ribbons on candles, over archways, and oversized hair pieces.

Looking into the future, sustainability-focused weddings and non-traditional venues are on the rise, allowing couples to showcase their unique style. Basically, it's all about self-expression. So, if you’re feeling a bit extra, why not go for that outfit change? Quick change, big impact! Or the cascading waterfall of flowers (because honestly, who doesn’t love a flower waterfall) it's your time to shine, so do what you love.

In the grand scheme of things, remember that it's supposed to be a journey of love and laughter, so have fun with it! Be daring, break the rules, but most importantly, stay true to yourself.

Cheers from your wedding bestie,

Kristy x
